Measuring your room for custom furniture

The five measurements we actually need, the two most people forget, and why the doorway matters more than the wall.

Custom work fails most often not because of the build, but because of a measurement taken once and never checked. Here is what to send us, and why.

What to measure

  • Wall width at floor level and again at waist height — walls are rarely square.
  • Ceiling height at both ends of the wall, not just the middle.
  • Skirting board depth, which sets how flush a unit can sit.
  • Any obstruction: plug points, light switches, radiators, window sills.
  • The route in — doorway width, stairwell turns and lift dimensions.

The one people forget

The route in. A wall unit that fits the wall perfectly is useless if it cannot turn the corner at the top of your stairs. We would rather build a piece in two sections that assemble in the room than deliver something that has to go back on the truck.

How accurate is accurate enough

To the millimetre where the piece meets a wall or ceiling, and to the centimetre elsewhere. If you are unsure, send photographs with a tape measure held against the wall — we would rather check ourselves than guess.

Sending it to us

A photo of a hand-drawn sketch with numbers on it is genuinely fine. Most of our custom orders start exactly that way, usually over WhatsApp.
