Office

A home office built into an awkward alcove

A desk and shelving unit designed around a load-bearing pillar and an inconveniently placed plug point.

The brief

The client wanted a working desk with storage in a spare-room alcove interrupted by a structural pillar.

The challenge

The pillar removed 300mm from the usable width at one end only, and the room's only plug point sat behind where the desk needed to go.

What we did

We built an asymmetric desk that steps around the pillar, with a removable back panel over the plug point and cable routing through the rear rail.

The outcome

The alcove became usable working space without moving electrics or losing the pillar.
